When the Bleeding Stops + Vulture

Saturday 29 April 2023, at 12:30pm

When the Bleeding Stops by Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir tackles the silence and taboo that seems to engulf menopause in Western society, as well as the choreographer’s personal experience of ageing as a dancer.

Vulture by Ching-Ying Chien revolves around an old Tibetan myth about vultures. The vulture is a creature that only survives because of another’s death. It is part of a food chain that humans have transcended. But in the human race there are always those who benefit from others misfortunes.

These performances are presented as part of Spring Forward Festival, which is taking place in Dublin, from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 April. It brings together 21 inspiring dance makers from around Europe.

Atlas da Boca + How The Land Lies at Smock Alley

Saturday 29 April 2023, at 3:30pm

Braba Plataforma/Gaya de Medeiros' Atlas da Boca explores two trans bodies through the mouth. As a symbol, the mouth becomes the interface between the public and the private, between the erotic and the political, between silence and the word that lasts.

Laura Cemina and Bianca Hisse's How the Land Lies is a dance performance for 5 bodies and 3 LED scrolling signs. Navigating between tourism slogans and visa questionnaires, the dancers –who carry experiences of migration and displacement between countries– interact with the text scrolling on the LED panels to question borders.

To cut loose by Leïla Ka

In a nightgown. Immaculate, splashing white. In the midst of a thick darkness, that of the night, place of fantasies, darkness, dreams, letting go. It is a body in full pulsation, an attempt at revolt, at rebellion. An indestructible and indomitable desire for freedom. That of escaping the shackles, of putting an end to the injunctions, of cracking the seams of conditioning, of boiling down the assignments.

Hope Hunt and the Ascension into Lazarus by Oona Doherty

“Hope Hunting” lies between the lines of physical theatre, social proclamation and dance. A thumping black golf, headlights on, sits in waiting, Music thumping from its metal shield. A man who is many men leaks in out of the metal beat, his story, A hunt for hope.
