The Sculptresses

The Sculptresses is a performative archive of women’s bonds and their individuality.
Following the XIXth-century pioneer sculptresses (T. Certowicz, H. Bertaux, A. Rożniatowska, M. Gerson-Dąbrowska, C. Claudel) and their sisterhood, the dancers put their own bodies on the podium as an object of mutual creation. Mixing the sense of agency, (in)dependence, the relationship of power, partnership, gymnastics and eroticism, The Sculptresses is a supra-individual statue in constant making The duet focuses on a constant attempt to formulate the social status of female relationships. It is an invitation to participate in the act of creation and experience sculpture through the choreographic perspective.

Biography

sisterhood practice is a choreographic initiative founded in 2019 that brings together female choreographers, theatre makers and scientists. The idea of sisterhood is manifested through choreography and dance ,sharing a common artistic focus as well as caring for others and their contribution. They aim to popularise sisterhood while working on strengthening each creator’s individual skills and embodying the synergy that comes from organising their attention together. They attribute the practice of sisterhood to all people/groups who together take care of the creation process, strive for its transparency, openness to others and question authoritarian models of leadership.
